I started traveling when I was 19. My interest in sociology led me all the way to West Africa on a class trip with my university in December of 2006. I loved it and learned so much that I was hooked! Did an internship in Costa Rica over summer of 2008 for my degree in Recreation and Ecotourism. I learned and experienced so many wonderful things that I knew traveling would become part of my life in some form.
After graduating in December 2008, I took up an opportunity to work at sea for a cruise line, and I’ve been sailing the high seas ever since – through the Baltic, the Amazon, the St. Lawrence, the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, the Panama Canal, and more. It’s been a whirlwind these past few years, and with all the struggles that come with living on a ship, there are just as many great benefits. I can now say I’ve sailed the seven seas and been to EVERY continent!
I am determined to share all of this not only because I love to, but also as a resource for me to look back and be thankful for all my wonderful experiences (and in case my hard drive crashes again, I don’t want to lose all my writing!). I also hope that others can get something out of it whether that’s what to do or not do, or where to go or avoid.
I’m out to explore the world and share what I find. Through photos, videos, and stories, I hope to form a better understanding of this beautiful place I heart: EARTH.
UPDATE:
In May of 2016, I landed in Seattle, set aside my sea legs, and got a land job to try my hand at this whole “adulting” thing. It’s crazy and scary but I don’t hate it. It makes traveling more special now that I work hard to earn the time and money to explore. I am still photographing, writing, creating videos, and traveling, just at a much slower rate these days. Please continue to support and follow along!

This is Rob, the other half of the “we” I always write about. We’ve been together and putting up with each other since July 2010. He plays a wicked guitar and is a great chef! He also takes beautiful travel photos. You can find them on Instagram @robby.vs.world.
Together we like to:
Drink tea, scuba dive, explore the world, pet animals, eat well, photograph, surround ourselves with amazing people, create and compile videos, practice good karma, indulge in crunchy peanut butter, listen to our record collection, watch lightning storms, cook, laugh, and be merry!
I stumbled upon your blog and enjoyed reading about your travels. What a wonderful experience for a young person, I wish I would have done something like that 30 years ago. I live in the states and have taken 3 cruises over the last couple of years with a visit to St Petersburg, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Civitivecchia, Rome, Ephesus, Malta, Sicily,Crete and Finland. It was interesting to read what you had to say about the same places. Follow the Sun !!

Thanks, I literally JUST read about your honeymoon plans. That is one long trip but it sounds amazing! Are there scuba companies throughout the islands? Is there ever any weather but sun? Can’t wait to read about the stories when you get back!

Yeah we’re very excited about our upcoming trip! Almost all islands in the Maldives have a dive center. We don’t dive, but the snorkeling is spectacular too and the reefs are very easily accessible from shore. Weather wise the monsoon normally changes in May and Dec which brings unsettled weather for a few weeks. Jan-April is dry/high season, May-Dec is rainy/low season. We normally get a mix of sun, rain and clouds anytime of year when we go. Mostly sun though 🙂

Thanks for the reply. Clouds make for the best sunsets!
