Three weeks ago, we had the lovely opportunity to do a crew tour in Yangon, Myanmar. Of course these sweet eyes completely distracted me from the Lying Buddha we were supposed to be visiting…can you blame me??
No puppies awaited us at Shwedagon Pagoda, but plenty of beauty did. Legend has it that this could be the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world, built more that 2,600 years ago! Wonder how many layers of gold paint you’d have to scratch through to get to the original… My favorite part of this day was taking part in the ritual of pouring water over Monday’s (since I was born on a Monday) Buddha and making my wish.
The sunset was amazing, with dramatic shadows stretching along the ground. Just gorgeous!
I also enjoyed just having a short wander around the city to catch a glimpse of the local life. Watch your step though! As in most Asian cities I’ve visited, the sidewalks can suddenly be interrupted with holes or covered with obstacles. Not so easy to navigate as it gets darker.
What an amazing experience! I’m so envious!
