Anxious to check out the sights of Goa, three of us hoped in a cab to town, unaware of the fact that Goa actually encompasses a much larger area than I expected, so finding the highlights that my mother had spoke of wasn’t as easy as I had anticipated. Anyway, we wandered for an hour or two, happening upon a local food market, its vendors selling a beautiful array of various fruits and vegetables, some twice the size of their American counterparts. As the whole town we ended up in was fairly busy and bustling, it didn’t provide that daily dose of zen we hoped to find.
Eager to experience that more peaceful atmosphere we settled on a scenery change, ending up at Bogmalo Beach. We had to change some money just before hand and it took about five banks before we found one who could do it. This process then took 5 minutes so come prepared with the right amount of money ahead of time!
We dipped our toes in the Indian Ocean for the first time that day; it’s water warm and welcoming. Should’ve brought the swimming gear! After a delicious curry lunch with fresh juice, and quick gander at the shopping stalls*, we hurried back through the traffic jams to catch the ship in time for 3 o’clock all aboard – much earlier than we prefer!
*If you ever find yourself at Bogmalo Beach in Goa, buy from Leela, she’s a doll! And she has four kids to support.
